Eeles to run the London Marathon

Following in the footsteps of the Provincial Grand Secretary Peter Taylor, another intrepid athlete nears his challenge. Like Peter, all the money he raises will go towards the West Lancashire Masonic Charitable Foundation 2021 Festival.

The energetic fundraiser in question is Adam Eeles, who is a member of Old Masonians West Lancashire Lodge No 7702.

Adam was thrilled to hear from the organisers of the London Marathon that he had been selected from the 1,000’s who had applied to run this renowned event on Sunday 26 April 2020.

Adam is a relatively new member to Old Masonians and he presented and explained the working tools of a fellow craft to great effect at the lodges last installation ceremony. He will no doubt display that dedication and effort to the rather easier task of running a marathon!

He says: “I have always been keen on sports and played handball at a decent level when I was younger. However, after attending university at Lancaster, I had put on a bit of weight and become quite heavy, I started running to slim down, I did a reasonable job at the time, but it always pilled back on!

As such I wanted to start running properly and I really enjoy the structure and determination needed to reach a milestone. This is one of the things I have really gained from being a Masons, the structure and the attention to detail that’s needed.”

Adam joined the lodge in 2016 and says he has really enjoyed getting to know the other members, it’s been a great experience. Adam has a start-up business which has become difficult to run due to his wife illness. Adam says he has had fantastic support from the lodge and was helped enormously by the almoner and secretary, as he was struggling to cope with the pressures of dealing with the challenges in his life.

The Masonic Charitable Foundation is very close to Adam’s heart, he says: “That is one of the reasons I thought of running to raise funds for the MCF as it is just such a great charity and the support it gives people must be unparalleled.”

Hopefully, Freemasons in this Province will support Adam in his efforts to raise funds for the Festival when he takes part in the London Marathon. Click this link to make your donation
