Golfing Society

The 2018 annual competition was held at Fairhaven Golf Club in Lytham This is the fifth year that the event has been held at this magnificent venue and once again the players required plenty of sun cream on a beautiful day on this superbly presented but tough course.

Although originally held to decide the PDMGS champion golfer, the event was open to visitors both Masonic and non-Masonic, and again attracted quite a number amongst the participating 30 players.

After a hard-fought competition on this this tough and demanding golf course, the competitors returned for showers followed by well earned liquid refreshment in the bar of the beautiful clubhouse. The participants went on to enjoy a superb carvery in the dining room.

After dinner the Society Chairman, Ken White, addressed the assembly commiserating with all those who had tangled with, or lost balls in the rough, or those who had put their balls into the large and often deep bunkers and failed to get out, hoping that despite these possible problems everyone had enjoyed the day.

He expressed his delight that the Society President, Tom Blackburn, was able to attend on this occasion, and was looking forward to presenting the prizes.

The 18-hole competition is based on the Stableford system with full handicap allowance, and produced the following results:

The hard-working society secretary, Garry Norris, became the champion golfer for 2018 with a score of 34 points, beating last years’ winner Malcom Berry by one point.
